The whole of the Spinney Bell Meadow nursery has been full of the lovely smell of freshly baked bread today as the Toddlers and Pre-school have been busy baking!

During mess play one of the children was mixing together oats, rice and lentils with a spoon. “I’m making it doughy!” they said, and when asked what they were making they replied ‘I’m making bread!’.

After the group talked about bread  and how it is made they decided that they wanted to bake their own bread, so headed to the Baking Room to begin. They all put on their aprons, washed their hands got all the things they would need to bake the bread. They helped pour the flour, yeast, water, salt and vegetable oil into a bowl and took it in turns to mix together.

Once the dough was made, each child was given a small piece to roll, pat, squash and shape how they wanted. Some children made circles, others squares and even a triangle!

The next task was to give it to our fantastic cook who safely put them in the oven to cook! Once done, they looked and smelt fabulous and tasted even better!
