Forest School in February saw a mix of weather conditions, with cold, winter days in addition to warmer days with hints of spring.

Topping up the bird feeders has become a routine and it’s great to see the children so invested in the welfare of the animals in the natural environment.

Continuing on from finding wildlife tracks in the snow last month, the children have been learning about the paw prints and tracks that different animals leave.

This interest was supported and nurtured by reading the fantastic book “What the Oak Tree Sees”. The children enjoyed using the track ID sheet to explore the Forest School looking for evidence of animals that have past through.

As February brings both St Valentine’s Day and Pancake Day, we celebrated both in Forest School.

Showing their Valentine’s Day love for the birds, the children made heart-shaped bird feeders which they hung in the trees.

For Pancake Day we enjoyed making pancakes on the campfire, eating them in the fresh air whilst surrounded by birdsong!
