The Spinney Pre School were very excited to hear that their new Forest School was ready for the grand opening this January, and what a great way to start the year.

With snow on the ground it added to the magical atmosphere of the forest and the children enjoyed looking for animal tracks in the snow.

We talked about what nature experiences in the winter months, such as trees shedding their leaves, some animals hibernating and what food sources are available.

This led to the idea to help feed the animals, especially the birds, so we introduced bird feeders into the Forest School. So that the children could watch the birds without scaring them, we made a fantastic Bird Hide that they could sit in and watch the birds on the bird feeders.

This led on to a conversation about the different birds that they see and how you sometimes need binoculars to help see them far way. We decided to make our own binoculars which the children enjoyed decorating.

The first month at the new Forest School site was all about exploring the area, getting comfortable with the space and learning about the different plants and animals we may see in the woods throughout the changing seasons.

Keep an eye on our Blog, Facebook & Instagram pages to see what else the children get up to at the Spinney Day Nursery Bell Meadow Forest School and Nursery.
