May finally brought some sunshine and the Spinney Day Nursery Hoole decided it was time to start growing flowers and vegetables in their garden.
The children got very busy first by weeding the garden ready for planting. They even managed to pull up the last of the Leeks and gave them to Helen to cook with.

This year for the first time we have decided to turn one of the flower beds into a wildlife garden. So we wrote a letter to The Wildlife Trust asking if they could send us some wild flower seeds and they did!!

First we asked the children to scatter the seeds and in only 5 days they have already started to grow!! One of the children said it was ‘Magic’.

The wildlife gardening trust tell us that there are estimated to be 16 million gardens in the united kingdom and if they all had one wild flower bed it would make a big difference to our wild life.

We have also planted potatoes and onions in our garden and the potatoes are already starting to show.
We were very excited to get a walk in green house this year which we are growing 3 different types of tomato plant in. The children go in each day to check them and give them water.

The Early Years Foundation Stage tells us that children can talk about some of the things they have observed such as plants, animals and natural found objects and they are developing an understanding of growth, decay and changes over time.
