It has been one busy week at the Spinney Holiday Club this October Half Term! It would seem the Halloween Hobgoblins have been out in all their mischief-making glory as on Monday there was a mysterious knock at the door in the Holiday Club Room. The children went to see who it was but when they opened it….no one was there! Baffled, they returned to their activities but were again disturbed when an envelope flew under the door!
When they opened it they were shocked to see a ransom letter stating that Stripes, their beloved Spinney tiger, had been kidnapped by the Hobgoblins!!! The letter said they would only get him back once they had completed a set of 5 challenges throughout the week, receiving a different one each day!
Though they were very sad to hear that Stripes had been taken, they knew that they would have no problem completing the tasks and getting him back. As they waited to receive the challenges they were kept very busy with a variety of Halloween-themed activities in the run up to the Spinney Halloween Party on the Friday.
They made some fantastic spider web decorations, spooky zombie hand desk tidies and yummy witch hat biscuits.
Challenge no.1 soon arrived which tested the children’s building skills as they had to get into teams and build a tall Jenga tower that would stand for at least 5 minutes. Unfortunately they failed this task so they had to do the forfeit instead which was to sing a song! When they finally completed the task they received a clue that would bring them one step closer to getting Stripes back.
On Tuesday they were invited to the Spinney Day Nursery Hoole as they had Zoolab visiting with some creepy crawly special guests including a tarantula, corn snake and a rat. Their challenge that day was to complete a treasure hunt to find another clue!
Wednesday was the day of the Spinney Adventurers Club where they went to the Pumpkin Farm to find the perfect pumpkin to make a home for nature from. They made their way through the spooky maize maze before finding the pumpkin patch and searching the filed for the best pumpkin they could find. Once they were back at Holiday Club they carved windows, doors and shapes into and created a pumpkin house for insects! Once filled with straw, leaves and mud they put it in the garden. We are sure the bugs will love it!
Their challenge that day was to get into pairs and draw portraits of each other which were fantastic! Even though they had received another clue they were still struggling to work out what the message was trying to say.
On Thursday they created some brilliant salt dough bats and pumpkins and made delicious lollipop spiders. They also received another challenge which saw them take part in a blindfolded obstacle course where they had to help guide each other around. Once everyone had completed the Obstacle Course they received another clue! They were so close to working out the message and saving Stripes, they just needed to do one more challenge!
Friday morning was spent making fantastic chocolate apples and getting ready for the Holiday Club Halloween Party in the afternoon. They had all brought their costumes with them and were very much looking forward to the party games and spooky food!
Just before lunch they discovered their final challenge left for them by the Hobgoblins! It gave them the last piece of the message puzzle which they had to work out. By putting the words in the correct order it read where they would find Stripes! They rushed outside and were very happy to find Stripes safe and well in the play house and welcomed him back with lots of hugs! Well done Spinney Holiday Clubbers, you have rescued Stripes!
After a very busy Half Term Holiday Club they celebrated in style at their Halloween Party which was jam-packed with fun games and a wonderful Halloween food buffet.
Happy Halloween!! 🙂
