Welcome to the Spinney Day Nursery Bell Meadow’s Toddler Room where we take a look at a typical day to provide an insight into the different types of activities and daily routine that the Toddlers experience.

The Toddler Room Daily Routine:

7.30 – Welcome, Breakfast & Social Time

Good Morning! When the children come into nursery in the morning they enjoy some time to play with their friends and have breakfast if they require before starting the day at the Spinney Day Nursery Bell Meadow

09.00 – 9.45 – Free Play.

The Toddlers enjoy playing with a selection of toys such as Small World Play where they are able to copy their everyday lives, including dolls houses, farm yards and zoo. Small World Play supports the Early Years Foundation (EYF) specific area of ‘Understanding the World’ and helps the personal and social development of the toddlers as they communicate and play together. They also enjoy looking at books and playing with  other toys and games.

09.45 – 10.15 – Tidy up, Song Time & Washing Hands

After tidying up the Toddlers choose songs to all sing together with the nursery nurses. Some favourites include ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and ‘Wind the Bobbin Up’. Today they also enjoyed listening to the story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’. Next they go to wash their hands ready for snack.

10.15 – 10.30 – Snack Time

The Toddlers have their mid-morning snack in the Spinney Dining Room where they are able to sit and eat with their friends and the Pre School children. This provides a great social environment and enables siblings in the different rooms to spend time with each other. Snack varies but is freshly prepared by our fantastic cook in the Spinney Kitchen. Today’s snack was cucumber sticks and English muffins.

10.30 – 10.45 – Circle Time

During Circle Time the children all sit in a circle and do some shared activities with the nursery nurses, such as counting. Today they took turns to use bocks to count to ten which encourages their mathematical learning which is a specific area of the EYF

10.45 – 11.15 – Activities

The children take part in a variety of activities that changes each day and includes, painting, mark-making and messy play. Today they enjoyed a fantastic jelly play where they able to use things such as balls to investigate what patterns they can make with the jelly. They love to squish the jelly through their fingers, accompanied by much laughter and shrieks of delight! There are many benefits of messy pay as it supports the development of fine motor skills and enables them to feel different textures where they make comments such as ‘it’s cold’ and ‘it’s sticky’.

11.15 – 11.45 – Outdoor Play

The children play out daily in their fantastic outdoor area. Here they can play with their friends in the Mud Kitchen, the Spinney Castle, with trikes and outdoor equipment or just enjoy running about with their friends in the fresh air!

11.45 – 12.00 – Tidy up & Wash Hands

After a quick tidy up and back in to wash their hands they make their way to the Spinney Dining Room for some lunch.

12.00 – 12.30 – Lunch Time

The Toddlers enjoy their hot lunch with their friends and siblings in the Spinney Dining Room. Lunch is prepared from scratch using fresh produce by our Spinney Cook, who caters for many dietary requirements. A typical lunch includes a hot, nutritious meal and delicious dessert. Today they enjoyed spaghetti bolognaise, followed by chocolate mousse!

12.30 – 2.00/2.30 – Nap Time

The Toddlers enjoy a quiet nap time after lunch where the duration suits the individual child. As they wake up, they play in a different room so as not to disturb the other sleeping children.

2.30 – 3.30 – Activities

When all of the children are awake and have brushed their teeth they enjoy more activities. This afternoon they painted some pictures of their favourite book characters to go on display as part of World Book Day. We had Cinderella, Cave Baby and The Smartest Giant in Town!

Painting promotes the ‘Expressive Arts & Design’ area of learning as it allows the children to explore using different media and materials, as well as different textures and mark-making.

3.45 – 4.15 – Tea

The children enjoy another delicious and well balanced meal followed by fruit and yoghurt. Today’s tea was chicken fried rice with an alternative option provided for those with allergies & dietary requirements. Once they are finished it’s back to the Toddler Room for Circle Time

4.15 – 4.30 Circle Time & Home Time

After Circle Time the Toddlers enjoy free play until their Mummies and Daddies come to collect them. Here they are able to play together or just enjoy some quiet time looking at books.

Here at the Spinney Day Nursery our ethos is nurturing children through family values and encouraging learning through play. The daily routine is structured around the Early Years Framework and includes a wide variety of activities, games and playtime that encourages and supports their learning and development.  Although it is a typical day in the Toddler Room they also take part in activities throughout the week such as Jo Jingles every Wednesday.
