The Benefits of the Toddler Room

There are lots and lots of benefits of your child attending the Spinney Day Nursery Toddler Room. The room itself is a visual delight with lots of wall space for the display of the children’s art work (we definitely have some budding artists) and colourful displays.

The bright and friendly room is well equipped and laid out with activities and toys in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It stimulates curiosity, encourages exploration, promotes interests and provides fun and entertainment that every toddler needs to develop and grow. All our children learn through play and begin to build friendships with their peers.

The leader of the Toddler Room runs an experienced team who work with our toddlers, encouraging them and nurturing them. The Nursery Nurses help the children to be independent by learning to wash their hands, wipe their own faces, serving themselves their own food and support potty training which is all important in self-care.

The Toddler Room becomes a large open space for the children to explore and develop all areas. The free flowing continuous provision means that the toddlers are encouraged to engage in play that appeals to them with the children’s key person supporting each individual child’s learning and development.

Through this the toddlers are now learning to follow simple toddler room rules like washing hands before meals, tidy up time, sharing and to use our ‘listening ears’. During their time in toddlers the children learn to communicate their needs and wants and they build a trusting relationship with their key person and all members of staff.

They also spend lots of time in the fresh air playing in our wonderful Outdoor Area, whether it’s creating a ‘Muddy Meal’ in the Mud Kitchen, helping to plant flowers and veg in our Growing Garden or playing together with the outdoor equipment. This is a fantastic place for them to learn and helps support the development of their gross motor skills whilst enjoying playing with their friends.

The staff also take the children on little adventures in the small woodland just behind the nursery where they listen to the wildlife, go on nature walks and even look for the Gruffalo! We are firm believers in the benefit of fresh air to support the physical and mental development of children of all ages, so we spend as much time as we can outside.
