The school holidays welcomes the return of the Spinney Adventurers Club, a weekly session for children who love adventure, wildlife and the great outdoors!
This summer the Adventurers are tasked with finding 5 ways to protect the planet and local wildlife.
Each week, if they complete the challenges, they will receive the token to add to the special ‘Help protect the Planet’ board.

Ways to Protect the Planet: #1 Help the Wildlife
The first way to help protect the planet is to help the wildlife that live here. Plants, animals and insects all have an important role to play in the ecosystem, so it’s vital we do everyting we can to help them.
The first challenge involved finding the poor toad. He had lost his way looking for water after his pond had dried up. The first task was to fill a bucket of water so that the toad had somewhere to go once he was found.
Next, the children needed to crack the code in order to find where he was. Firstly, they had to complete challenges and working out the clues to get the code pieces. Once they had collected all of the piecesthey used the code sheet to work out what the message said. It turns out the toad was hiding by the Robin!
They worked fantastically and eventually found they toad who was safely led to water.

At lunchtime, the Spinney Adventurers gathered around the fire to enjoy sandwiches, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. Once refuelled, they set off to explore and play in the woods where they looked for bugs, played in the mud kitchen and built dens.
As the main aim of today’s challenge was to help the wildlife, it seemed a great idea to make homes for toads, frogs and insects. Decorating pots, they each made their very own ‘Toad Abode’ to take home with them.
Well done Spinney Adventurers, you completed all of today’s challenges and received the first token to go on the board – Help the Wildlife.
We can’t wait to see what they get up to next week!

The Spinney Adventurers Club runs every Wednesday throughout the school holiday for children aged 4-11yrs.
