The Spinney Day Nursery-logo-Favicon

What an incredible day for the Spinney Adventurers as they
ventured back into the Magic Woods to help the Mystical Woodland Folk by taking
on the ‘Quest of the Missing Sun Stone’!

The Destroyers (those selfish folk who are determined to
ruin the Magical Woods for all the animals that live there) had sent a horrible
storm to wreck the animal dens the Spinney Adventurers had made at the last
session. Not only had they caused damage to the woods and scared the wildlife
but they had also crept in and taken the Mystical Woodland Folk’s ‘Sun Stone’
and hidden it somewhere. Without the Sun Stone, the woods are blanketed in grey
cloud and summer never comes.

In order to ensure the sun shines again the Mystical
Woodland Folk have asked the Spinney Adventurers to take on a Quest to find the
stone by following clues and completing tasks along the way. The brave
Adventurers were more than happy to help and split into two tribes so as to
make it quicker to find the stone.

Working together in the teams they ventured off into the
woods with the first clue that led them to the first tasks. Tribe 1 were tasked
with finding as many trees as they could off their tick list by looking at the
different leaves, whilst Tribe 2 had to find a list of things in the woods
including a feather, rough stone, spider’s web and a wild flower.

Once complete they were given the next clue, which led them
to another set of tasks including deciphering the coded message by using the animal
track code sheet and matching the pairs of animal track cards. This was no
problem for the Spinney Adventures and they were soon finished and on to the
next clue.

After a quick lunch break (Adventurers have to keep their
energy levels up!) they were given another set of task to complete in order to
get the next clue where they had to finish a Fungi Word search and a Maze
Worksheet where they had to lead a lost fox cub back to its family.

The next part of the quest involved  Tribe 2 guessing the animals from a close up
which they were very good at, whilst Tribe 1 had the trickier task of working
out the animal from the anagrams. Having worked together as a team they had
soon worked them all out and received the clue that led them to Bug World, closely
followed by Tribe 2.

Here both tribes had to go through the alphabet listing
things they can find in the woods beginning with each letter. Tribe 2 had to
think of things from letter A-M, whilst Tribe 2 had O-Z. It wasn’t the easiest
of tasks but they did really well and managed to complete it eventually (though
we used a bit of artistic license and came up with ‘extravagant plants’ for the
letter X, and the infamous ‘Woodland Zebra’ for Z!).

Here the next clue took them both to the same place where
they took part in everyone’s favourite woodland game….welly throwing! They were
all tasked to take it in turns and try and throw the welly to get it to land in
the tyre. If both groups got at least 4 wellies in they won they next clue to
help them find the missing Sun Stone. Well, what can we say, they were masters
of well throwing with Tribe 2 alone getting at least 8 in, followed shortly by
Tribe 2 getting 6 in.

With a huge round of applause for all of them, they were
given the next clue that led them to the best climbing tree in the woods. With
a bit of searching about they soon came across something hidden in the roots
and were delighted to discover it was indeed the missing Sun Stone! They had successfully
completed the Quest and could return they stone safely to the woods and bring
summer back, and would you believe it, the sun actually came out!!

However, the adventure did not end there as they were given
another task by the Mystical Woodland Folk who were worried the Sun Stone may
go missing again if there was not something there to protect it! The kindly
asked the Spinney Adventurers to created Grass Dolls that could circle the
stone and keep the Destroyers away from it.

The Spinney Adventures were more than happy to help and went
about collecting the long grass and tying them together with string to make the
most fantastic grass dolls! Some had skirts and swords, whilst the others had hair
and hats and altogether they made quite an impressive protective circle around
the stone.

What amazing Adventurers we have here who once again have
done a grand job of helping the Mystical Woodland Folk protect the Magic Woods
and all the wildlife that lives there.

Until next time Spinney Adventurers!
